As I embarked on my journey through the world of Genesis Noir, I couldn't help but feel like I was attending the longest party ever thrown - filled with pretentious people who insisted that I 'don't get it' whenever I tried to do something as simple as throwing away trash. It's a sentiment echoed throughout the game, where every minute felt like an eternity spent digging through tedious scenes with minimal payoff.

The gameplay in Genesis Noir is far from groundbreaking, innovative, or fun - it's frustrating, to say the least. I found myself relying on walkthroughs just 5 minutes into the game, and the appeal started to wear thin. It's not for lack of trying, either - the game is heavily influenced by romantic crime noir movies of old, with a unique visual style that's nothing short of breathtaking.

At its core, Genesis Noir is a work of art with no substance to back it up. It's a point-and-click adventure game about three jealous gods, and for those who enjoy abstract experiences, there may be some appeal here. For me, however, the experience was more like trying to make sense out of nonsense.

As No Man, your goal is to stop Golden Boy from murdering the famous singer/bombshell Miss Mass. Sounds simple enough, but in practice, it's a nightmare. With no clear direction and confusing puzzles, I often found myself feeling lost and frustrated. It's a shame, really - with some solid gameplay mechanics, Genesis Noir could have been something truly special.

Instead, I'm left to wonder why the developers didn't create a short film instead of a game. Six hours is a long time to spend on an experience that feels like it's more art than substance. If you're looking for a traditional point-and-click adventure with engaging gameplay and puzzles, Genesis Noir may not be the best choice.

However, if you enjoy abstract experiences and are willing to overlook some serious flaws in the gameplay department, Genesis Noir might be worth checking out. Just be prepared for a wild ride filled with confusion, frustration, and maybe - just maybe - a glimmer of beauty amidst the chaos.
